Archaeological excavation of Sarmishtepe
Sarmishtepa-1 is a monument and consists of two parts arche and rabot and located on the north of Gorniy children camp. The area of the site is 24x25m. The height is 8.5m. the northern parties higher than other parts. The entrance was from the west. The four towers and the walls were layed down out of stones. The most saved walls are on the west side of the site.
The northern part of arche was selected for strtegraphic analyses. The aim was to learn the stratigraphy of cultural layers and defense walls of the site. The upper part of the wall belongs to Karahanid period and was used in middleage period. At lower part early middle age was defined. Ceramic pieces and other findings were excavated during the expedition. The findings belong to from ancient time to middle age time. There are fragments of cups, vessels, kettle, vases available. According to results of dating most of the objects belong to early middle age time. But the time pof the construction of the castle has not been defined yet. Nevertheless according to the objects found we can say that the building took place in late ancient time. The monument was widely used in early middle age, at Karahanid and late middle age periods.
